T H E S T A N F R E B E R G S H O W ----- ------- ------------- ------- 1957 First Show: Jul 14, 1957 Last Show: Oct 20, 1957 Number Shows: 15 Audition Show: none Series Description: On July, 14, 1957, in the twilight of the great days of radio, Stan Freberg opened his own show, a summer replacement for the Jack Benny Show on CBS. Mr. Freberg was already known to the radio audience for parts played in numerous other series and a situation comedy, THAT'S RICH. Although the series lasted only 15 shows, it demonstrated Stan's genius for satiric comedy. In 1958, Capitol Records released an album of some of the best of the sketches from the series. The albums, "The Best of Stan Freberg", won a Grammy award. Regulars who helped Stan make his special brand of madness were June Foray, Peter Leeds, Daws Butler and Peggy Taylor. Log Comments: All shows are available to collectors and there are quite a few vendors who carry the full series. Many list only broadcast dates or list one sketch. The AVPRO catalog listed many sketches from each show. The Smithsonian Historical Performances series offers two sets, one containing the first seven shows along with an introduction on tape 1 by Stan himself and one containing the last 8 shows. The set was prepared by Radio Spirits. Chronological Log: Date Num Skit Titles ------------ --- -------------------------------------------- ....... all shows air Sundays ....... Jul 14, 1957 1 1.
