SERIES BACKGROUND:
THE FURTHER ADVENTURES OF SHERLOCK HOLMES is written and produced byJim French and is concerned with additional adventures of the world's first and most famous consulting detective.
THE FURTHER ADVENTURES OF SHERLOCK HOLMES airs as part of IMAGINATION THEATRE on KIXI in Seattle and is syndicated as part of IMAGINATION THEATRE on about 135 radio stations in the United States, Canada, and Australia. It is also heard over the Internet, on XM satellite radio and in many countries via satellite. (IMAGINATION THEATRE also airs French's THE ADVENTURES OF HARRY NILE, CALL SIMON WALKER, and KINCAID, THE STRANGE-SEEKER.) Previously, it was heard in the Seattle area as part of IMAGINATION THEATRE on KNWX (episodes 014-033), THE PEMCO IMAGINATION THEATRE on KNWX (episodes 009-013), and THE KIRO MYSTERY PLAYHOUSE on KIRO (episodes 001-008.)
SERIES DESCRIPTION:
As the series title implies, these adventures are not dramatizations of the original Sherlock Holmes stories written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. They are, rather, pastiches, completely new adventures that remain faithful to the spirit, style, and tone of the original stories. Even Holmes' addiction to cocaine is alluded to in "The Billingsgate Horror" episode. Holmes admits, "My mind needs a stimulant, other than the kind I used to keep in my drawer."
The Dr. Watson character, as played by Lawrence Albert, is no bumbler; he is Holmes' trusted and respected friend, associate, and confidant. Watson often discovers valuable clues that aid in the solving of their cases.
Even though most of Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson literature are now in the public domain, Jim French has gone to the effort of making an arrangement with the estate of Dame Jean Conan Doyle for the use of these and other characters in his radio dramatizations.
Jim French is especially proud of the salute given his series by the BBC's "Radio 4" programme, which played an excerpt of one of his shows to their listeners in England, commenting with some surprise that all the actors were Americans, and calling it "one of the best radio dramas currently available in the English language."

Episodes 019 and 020 featured Doctor Watson working with Sherlock's older brother Mycroft, played by Ted D'Arms.
In Episode 020 Dr. Watson impersonates Holmes at the behest of the British Government to help Great Britain avoid an international crisis.

In addition to Holmes and Watson, several characters from the original Sherlock Holmes stories have appeared in the series. They include: INSPECTOR GILES LESTRADE played by John Kirkland & Rick May; INSPECTOR TOBIAS GREGSON played by John Murray; INSPECTOR STANLEY HOPKINS played by Clarke Evans, Todd Jamison, & William Haymer; MYCROFT HOLMES played by Frank Buxton & Ted D'Arms; MRS. HUDSON played by Lee Paasch; and MARY MORASTAN WATSON played by Mary Anne Dorward and Ellen McLain.

While mainly Seattle-area actors appear on THE FURTHER ADVENTURES OF SHERLOCK HOLMES, nationally-known television stars have appeared, including: Russell Johnson of GILLIGAN'S ISLAND in episode 007 and Richard Sanders of WKRP IN CINCINNATI in episodes 008, 011 and 051.
Actors from The Golden Age of Radio Drama have also appeared, including: Rhoda Williams, Harry Bartell, Douglas Young, and Dick Beals.
RECORDING SESSIONS:
THE FURTHER ADVENTURES OF SHERLOCK HOLMES is unusual in that some of its episodes are recorded with a live audience in attendance. The first two episodes were recorded in front of a live audience at the Museum of History and Industry in Seattle. Episodes 003 - 016 and 019 were recorded at Jim French's studio in Bellevue, WA. Episodes 17 and 18 were recorded in front of a live audience at the Kirkland Performance Center (KPC) in Kirkland, WA. The KPC recording sessions usually occur every three months. Episodes of THE ADVENTURES OF HARRY NILE and THE FURTHER ADVENTURES OF SHERLOCK HOLMES are usually recorded at each session. NOTE ON EPISODES 030 & 031:
Episode 030, "The Strange Death of Lady Sylvia Eichorn" actually aired on IMAGINATION THEATRE after Episode 031, "The Adventure of the Lonely
Harvester." However, the initial performance of Episode 030 was on Saturday June 29, 2002 as a special presentation at the Radio Enthusiasts of Puget Sound Showcase X in Seattle, WA. The June 29, 2002 performance featured a different cast that included several actors from the Golden Age of Radio.

The Further Adventures of Sherlock Holmes
