S C I - F I R A D I O ----------- --------- 1989 - 1990 First Show: Sept 10, 1989 Last Show: Mar 18, 1990 Number Shows: 26 Audition Show: none Series Description: SCI_FI RADIO was a modern science fiction anthology radio series, heard over National Public Radio stations. Like X MINUS ONE and DIMENSION X, it dramatized some of the best science fiction in print by some of the best authors of the day. You'll find stories by Poul Anderson, Ray Bradbury, Arthur C. Clarke, Philip K. Dick, Ursula K. LeGuin, Walter M. Miller, Jr., Robert Silverberg, Robert Sheckley and Roger Zelazny. The entire series was produced by Kevin Singer. The productions were well done, with good scripts, although the acting is sometimes a little stiff, possibly because of the use of unseasoned radio actors. Each of the 26 broadcasts were 30 minutes in length. Eight of the shows were in 2 parts, offering half one week and the conclusion the following week. Since this is a modern series, the shows are not easily found and have never been commercial released. Off-the-air recordings of all 26 shows are available among collectors. Log Comments: As with many new series, information on this series is not easy to find. The majority of my information came in bits and peices from collectors and an occasional web site. As with all modern NPR series, the broadcast dates may be in error, since they could be broadcast at almost anytime. Although I had a number of author's names for the original work, "The OTR Plot Spot" web site (see references below) provided many more. They listed one title, "The Light of Other Days", which did not show up on any other list. It is shown at the end of the log.
