Perry Mason came to CBS October 18, 1943, in a script written especially for radio by Erle Stanley Gardner. So Perry Mason had a built in audience when he made the jump to radio. Though it came in the guise of crime drama this was sheer soap opera which ran in prime afternoon time, five days a week, fifteen minutes per chapter. On radio, he was as much detective as lawyer, at times swapping gunfire with criminals.
