Series Description:
The exploits of Doc Savage, "The Man of Bronze", first came to radio
in 1934 and ran into 1935. There were 26 episodes of this syndicated
series, running 15 minutes each. Scripts were written by Lester Dent.
Doc again made an appearance in 1943 in another syndicated series.
Unfortunately, none of these early shows survived.
Doc, a wealthy, brilliant man, embarked on missions that frequently
dealt with the bazaar. He battled his foes with high-tech tools of
the period (the 1930's) and his team of adventurers, each of whom
was a specialist in his field.
In 1985, Doc Savage was again heard over the airwaves via National
Public Radio. This modern version kept the serial format of the
original and played it as a period piece somewhere around the late
'30's to the early '40's.
A total of 13 shows were produced, consisting of seven episodes of
one serial, "Fear Cay" and six episodes of a second serial, "The
Thousand-Headed Man". Each serial can stand alone. Both are stereo.
Log Comments:
As this is a modern series, it's not readily available from the
usual OTR vendors. The series is in circulation among collectors.
